iPhone4's Extended Arm

In essence, Apple cops to the fact there are reception issues with the new iPhone 4. That if you cover the bottom-left corner of the phone and bridge the gap between the notch there with your naked flesh, you would see some signal degradation.

Yes, you read that right.

It's not a software or production issue, simply a matter of the physical location of your hand in regards to the phone's antenna - a bad design flaw.

The company's suggested fix?

Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for a big round of applause to a big hand for iPhone's....iHand.

I am so disappointed with Apple when I read that the antenna design is an issue.

For decades, most mobile phone manufacturers embed the antenna within the phone, at the back, so that it is unlikely to be covered during calls, and hence better reception.

When I first saw iPhone with antenna around the phone, I thought 'wow', that's so cool. Probably better reception. And now, this 'cool' design turns out to be such a design flaw. Totally don't expect a great R&D and Design-focused company like Apple to make such boo boo.
